Tips

  • When signing up to websites, always read the privacy terms to make sure they will not pass on your e-mail address to third parties who will use it to target you with spam.
  • When printing web pages, highlight the material you want to print and choose ‘selection’ in the print dialogue box. This saves ink as it won’t print the whole web page with unnecessary information that you don’t want or need.
  • Never download files from an unknown source or open e-mail attachments from an unknown sender.
  • Change your passwords regularly to avoid anyone being able to guess them. The more complicated a password the harder it is to guess, but the harder it is to remember as well! Make sure you pick passwords you’ll be able to remember easily.
  • To ensure your computer continues to operate smoothly and efficiently, run regular disk clean ups and defragment your hard drive every couple of months.
  • Use an ADSL Router with a built in firewall where possible instead of a firewall installed on your pc.
  • If you have an e-commerce website or are thinking about implementing one, make sure you offer secure payment to your customers using products such as Protx.
  • Always hold A CD/DVD by its centre hole and its outer edge to avoid damaging it.
  • To clean a CD/DVD, wipe with a clean soft cloth and avoid static and harsh detergents. Wipe from the inside to the outside in straight lines.
  • When creating a website, ensure that it is easy to navigate and uncluttered.
