The frightening thing is that they are even targeting the smartest of people - including you!
You've probably heard of phishing attacks or phishing emails but do you know what phishing actually means?
At its simplest, it is where a hacker tries to gain access to your computer systems, bank details or other sensitive information by sending you an email pretending to be from someone else. For example, it could be in the guise of a supplier sending an invoice, or an email from another colleague or customer asking for payment or personal details.
You then click on the link, or open the attachment, or reply to the email, genuinely not meaning to do any harm, but within an instant the phisher (hacker) has you ‘on the hook’ and from there, they will attempt to extract money or information depending on their motives.
Nearly 90% of cyber breaches happen because of human error.
It can happen to anyone - well meaning, hard-working people who make a silly mistake when they are not fully concentrating. This is why the vast majority of phishing attacks occur in the afternoon, when eyes are off the ball.
At Net Tech we take IT Security very seriously and we see these types of attacks all the time. It's frightening how effective hackers are and just how sophisticated their phishing methods can be in order to gain access to your money or data.
Please don't think that you or any of your staff or colleagues are too smart to fall for such a thing. In our experience, the smartest, most reliable people are often just as likely to fall prey to such attacks.
We have written a new FREE GUIDE - Phishing: Don't be easy bait - that shows you how to protect your business from being a victim of a phishing cyber-attack by making sure you and your team are prepared for an attack and know what to look out for.….and yes, you can hover over the link and you’ll see it goes to a secure page on our website :o)
Net Technical can provide your company with Phishing Awareness Training, using regular simulated phishing tests to keep your staff on their toes and to keep you aware of where your vulnerabilities lie in terms of susceptibility to this type of attack.
In our opinion, phishing your own users is just as important and effective as having antivirus, spam filtering or a firewall. It’s a cost effective cyber-security best practice to patch your last line of defence, your users!
Initially, to find out what percentage of your staff are prone to phishing we can offer you a FREE Phishing Security Test.
All we need is a list of email addresses (capped at 100 users) to send our harmless phishing emails to, and an agreed time and date for the test to take place. Prior to the test we will ensure that the emails are ‘white-listed’ so that they will breach your outer defences and reach their intended recipients.
If the results of the trial demonstrate that the click/open rate is concerning, then we would strongly recommend setting up regular monthly testing for which we charge a small ‘monthly setup fee’ equal to an hour or two of our time and approximately £2.25 per user per month to cover the campaign which includes reporting and training.
