Gmail Hacking Attack - It's happening now!
on 05/05/2017 00:00:00

You may have seen on the news this morning, that there is a massive attack on Gmail happening right now, this month. You should be concerned because there’s a possibility that members of your staff are logged into their personal Gmail on your work computers.

The attack is very clever. According to the information currently available, it’s an email that looks like it has come from a friend and contains a Google Docs link. When you click on the link, it gives control of your Gmail to the hackers. (If you Google ‘Gmail Phishing Attack’ you will find more information on this.)

We are sure Google is working very hard to fix this threat right now and in fact, it looks like they may have released a software update today which will help. The odds are your computers are not affected. But this is a great time to:

  • Talk to us about what measures you can put in place to mitigate against this kind of attack.
  • Remind staff of your company policy regarding the use of personal email and social media at work, or to put one in place if you do not have one.
  • Ensure any personal devices (smartphones, tablets etc.) are connected to 3G or guest WiFi networks and not the LAN unless specifically required.

If you have any concerns at all regarding your company's security or would like to talk these things through with us, please call one of our Account Managers on 01252 235 235 who can advise you on the best steps to take.
