Woking High School is a coeducational secondary school located in the Horsell area of Woking, Surrey. The school has approximately 1200 pupils between the ages of 11-16 and has held specialist Technology College status since 2004, converting to become an academy in 2013.
Net Technical Solutions was engaged in June 2013 to provide Network Support services to complement the existing on premise IT resource. At this time the school operated around a dozen physical servers which served the user base of 150 staff and 1200 students. The infrastructure was creaking both in terms of hardware and software, with many servers still running Windows Server 2003, no disaster recovery plan in place and network switches which were over 10 years old.
Armed with a thorough understanding of the network, we listened to the school’s plans and strategy then offered a detailed proposal for a phased upgrade of infrastructure over 2-3 years. Phase 1 replaced all switching infrastructure enabling staff to benefit from gigabit network speeds, Phase 2 saw critical servers virtualised and data storage streamlined and replicated off site whilst Phase 3 saw the virtualisation of the remaining servers and enabled automatic failover for full disaster recovery.
Since completing the project and with a stable network infrastructure now in place, Woking High School has moved forwards in many ways. Exchange has been replaced with Office 365, remote access into the school has been vastly improved and each project has been delivered on time and in budget with full documentation and handover.
